A Study on the Experience for Safety Care of Service in Long-term Care Facilities
Lee Seo-Young

Shim Sun-Kyung
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the experiences of facility staff and managers in long-term care centers, as well as the nature of the safe care that facility staff are providing. The study was conducted with 11 focus groups of long-term facility staff members using Giorgi¡¯s phenomenological method of analysis. An analysis of the results revealed four main issues: safe care, efforts surrounding safe care, safe care dilemmas, and safe care requirements. These 4 main topics were broken down into 13 components and 36 subthemes. The results indicate that participants believe that there is an intimate relationship between caring for psychological states and preserving human rights. Participants stated that they are making an effort to communicate and document their adherence to safe care; however, a lack of resources and guardians¡¯ lack of responsibility makes it difficult for staff at care centers to prioritize preserving human rights. This study indicates that safe care requires a social welfare movement and presents a regulatory recommendation.
